Our Moon

When a child becomes seriously ill and worries take over everyday life, we bring rest, breathing space and renewed strength. Together with our partners, we make a carefree Moon Moment possible: a family holiday where connection, resilience, and togetherness time once again prevail.

2005

The beginning

Beyond the Moon was founded on 18 May 2005, with one simple yet powerful mission: bestow families with a sick child togetherness time again, rest and the chance to reconnect.

2020 – 2022

Silent hope

During the pandemic, we brought moments of joy and distraction to children in Belgian hospitals through playful, interactive 3D murals — offering small windows of hope for families in isolation.

2025

20 Years of impact

On 18 May, we celebrated with our Moon Families and partners. At the end of 2025, a period of reflection followed, leading to a strategic repositioning of Beyond the Moon.

2026 – at present

A new chapter

On 19 March 2026, we launched our new identity: a new chapter with a clear vision for sustainable anchoring, strong partnerships, and lasting impact for Moon Families.

Team and Core Volunteers

Beyond the Moon is powered by a small, driven team dedicating itself every day to families with a seriously ill child, alongside a group of devoted core volunteers generously backing it up with their time and expertise. Each person brings a unique contribution with own strengths and experiences, allowing us to complement one another and achieving greater impact together. We intentionally surround ourselves with people supporting and believing in our mission — because behind every Moon Moment stand kind-hearted persons who, each in their own way, make the difference.

In 2025, our Founder received a wonderful recognition from the Foundation Gabriëlla Moortgat.

Locally rooted
(inter-) nationally connected

Beyond the Moon works with partners in homeland and abroad to grant families with a seriously ill child some rest and breathing space, wherever they live. Support raised (inter-)nationally is deployed locally — delivering direct impact to domestic families.

Our annual goal is ambitious and clear: offer a carefree Moon Moment each week to a family. The number of beneficiary families per year and per country depends on the funds raised locally.

For international companies, Beyond the Moon provides a Belgian-based single point of contact with support in three languages. This allows their branches in different countries to collaborate on a single CSR project and make Moon Moments possible. Today, Beyond the Moon works with international companies and foundations in five countries: Belgium, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Malta, and the Netherlands. As a result, our Moon Families also have various nationalities.

To keep the operating costs as low as possible, among others, Beyond the Moon intentionally operates without a central office, gets printing and promotional materials sponsored, uses free event or meeting spaces, works with volunteers, and so on.
