Each interactive 3D mural is unique and differs in detail for each hospital. They meet a fixed theme and a list of criteria carefully compiled by Beyond the Moon.  “The 3D see-through paper tear, beyond which the depth perception of each scene can be viewed, is the hallmark of our painting project. This design will be implemented for our interactive 3D murals in all participating hospitals, so that it is immediately recognised and accredited to the works of Beyond the Moon”, points out Pascale Somers, Manager Beyond the Moon.

As theme, we make the link with our vacation project by illustrating a family (holiday) activity brought to life by an animal family. The colourful, fun-filled and animated scenes provide a distraction during an hospitalisation or a consultation that is often synonymous with stress, worry and loneliness. We apply the "trompe-l'oeil" (translation: deceiving the eye) painting technique. A 3D depth effect that optically creates more space in the room. The child can carefree dream away and forget for a while the traumatic medical world.

"We get a lot of nice reactions from the children in our department. It is very nice to ask, for example, how many animals can be seen on this mural. It provides a good distraction when we take a blood test or when they go to sleep for a puncture." Sara de Brandt, deputy of the pediatric oncology department, UZ Brussels

Our 3D murals tell stories with an underlying message and stimulate interaction with the sick child. On our social media, you can see more pictures with all kinds of fun interactions with children. Our murals encourage them to hope for such a family experience. As message, we emphasize on never giving up hopes, nor dreams!
